Principal's Update
DATE January 12, 2020

Did you know??
Starting this year, we changed our Brookdale Drop-off/Pick-Up Lane. In conjunction with the City of Naperville and Mr. Mike Anders, District 204 Director of Safety, we have changed the flow of traffic to enter the car rider lane from Bainbridge Drive only for all parents and drivers. After observing the last week, we would like to share the following reminders:

Only enter the car rider lane from Bainbridge Drive. If you are coming from McDowell Road, there are several ways to connect to Bainbridge:
o (From McDowell) Turn south onto Abbotsford Drive to Hastings Street to Whitley Road in order to connect to eastbound Bainbridge Drive.
o (From Redfield) Turn west onto Trent Drive to Abbotsford Drive to Hastings Street to Whitley Road in order to connect to eastbound Bainbridge Drive.
o THE EASIEST and QUICKEST way (From Redfield) Turn west onto Bainbridge Drive, turn right onto Selby Road to eastbound Bainbridge Drive.

• If using a Ride-Share, please have the driver follow the same rules asked of ALL drivers. If they are picking you up from Brookdale, please give directions (in the notes section of the app) to pick you up in a specific location. Often the drivers do not understand the reasoning for our procedures and when they enter the car rider lane alone, they are very reluctant to follow our procedures.

Please refrain from making a three-point turn anywhere near the school during arrival or dismissal time! Not only is this illegal but it is VERY dangerous to all involved.
We appreciate every supporting our procedures and following them to the best of your ability. We are attaching the expectations again to this email. In addition, you can view our found on Brookdale webpage under "About our School".

We Need Your Feedback: Parents across Illinois once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. As of Sunday, January 12 we have 20% (89 parents) from Brookdale who have taken the survey! We would love to get 50% (248) of our parents to take the survey. More than one parent from each household can take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:

1. Visit

2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)

3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that effect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.

• Did you do some cleaning out of closets and drawers this break? Do you have extra clothes you would like to donate to our health office? The following clothing is needed to keep on hand for accidents and spills:

Students need to be in their classrooms at this bell— otherwise, they are marked tardy. Please plan your mornings accordingly.
