Principal's Update
DATE October 6, 2019
Did you know??

School attendance is essential to academic success. Did you know that absenteeism in the first month of school can predict attendance throughout the school year? Research shows that half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school by the end of the year. ( Remember any lost class time, whether excused or unexcused results in missed learning opportunities. Help your children develop positive habits for attendance from an early age!

• Please help us celebrate ALL of our Team IPEF participants by wearing your "Yellow" on Friday, October 11, 2019 for the District-Wide Yellow Out Day! Show us your "Yellow" by sharing photos and taggins us on Facebook or Twitter @ipef204 and your school will be entered into a drawing to win an extra $500!

Calling all United States Veterans or current military personnel!!! We would love to have you at our annual Veteran's Day Celebration on Monday, November 11th from 9:45-10:45 a.m. in the Brookdale gymnasium. We are hoping to have 3-5 veterans who would like to speak briefly and answer a few student questions. The assembly will be for 3rd-5th graders— however, if you have a younger student, he/she could come to see you speak. If you would like more information or are available to speak at our assembly, please contact the Veteran's Day Assembly chairman, Lynne Ouellette at The students look forward to this assembly and to showing their appreciation for our Veterans and current military personnel for all they have done/are doing to serve our country.

• Any student absent, or enrolled after September 4th, should get their school picture taken on picture retake day, Tuesday, October 22nd. HR Imaging has a “No Questions Asked” policy for retakes as well. If, for any reason, a student/parent is not happy with their pictures they may have the photograph retaken on October 22nd however, you must bring the entire package back and give it to the photographer at this time. Every student present on September 4th did get a picture taken. If you forget to order on this day, but wish to purchase a package, please go to for purchasing options.

• With the new fall season, we are finding many of our students and staff are getting ill. While some of these illnesses are common and expected, there are others where we need to be more cautious. If your child is showing symptoms of a deep/barking cough, sore throat, fever over 100 degrees and/or has vomited, please keep them home from school (24-hours after a fever and/or vomiting has subsided without the use of fever-reducing and/or anti-nausea medication). You can use the attached document to remind you of when to send your child to school versus keeping him/her home.
Please remember to call the school's attendance line at any time to report your child’s absence, stating the reason for their absence at (630) 428-6800, press #3. Sharing his/her symptoms early with the health office allows us to monitor patterns of illness. Feel free to call and speak with Nurse Adams if you have questions about your child’s specific illness in relation to school attendance.

• Please know, the parking lot is restricted to only buses, day care vans and carpools during the times of 8:40am to 9:15am and 3:15pm to 3:45pm. We appreciate everyone following this expectation.

• The first bell each morning rings at 8:50am (9:00am on Wednesday). This bell is when students can enter the building, The second bell rings at 9:05am (9:15am on Wednesday). Students need to be in their classrooms at this bell— otherwise, they are marked tardy. Please plan your mornings accordingly.
